day date with my oldest.

Saturday, September 30, 2017

This afternoon, I took Brooks on a special day date. We were both craving some time together, so a special Mommy/Brooks date was just what we needed. Our first stop, High Point Climbing, was a surprise. We have never been and I thought Brooks would really enjoy it since he is our little monkey, but he was extremely timid (surprise, surprise) and played it safe the majority of the time. He loved the web and spent most of his time climbing that. After several attempts, he finally made it to the top!

We still had some time to kill after climbing, so I asked Brooks what he wanted to do. He chose milkshakes and ice cream at Chick-fil-A, followed by a trip to the Halloween store.

We laughed a lot, scared ourselves silly, and listened to Luke Bryan on repeat. We had the best time. I just love this little boy to pieces!

brotherly love.

These two boys have my heart!

Yesterday evening, Brooks had his very first soccer game! We were supposed to start a couple of weeks ago, but the rain put a kink in our plans. Brooks was really excited to play. He got dressed a good hour before we were supposed to leave. He also couldn't wait to see his friends! John volunteered to coach his team this year and what a team we have! His friends Gray, Henry, Selah, Bill, and Lochlan, as well as our new twin friends, Liv and Neely are on his team.

They received purple shirts and the kids agreed on their name: the "Purple People Eaters." We can't wait to watch our boy and the rest of the PPEs play this season!

campbell: three months.

Friday, September 15, 2017

My sweet Campbell, as I write this you are wrapped up in the Solly, chest to chest with Mommy—your favorite place to be. Your eyes are wide open right now, but in a few minutes you will be off to dreamland. You much prefer my arms over your crib these days. You much prefer me, period. I am not complaining, though. I much prefer you in my arms, too. I adore every ounce of you, Bug.

Month three was a big month! First, on August 19th, you rolled over from your tummy to your back. You first rolled to your right, then to your left the next day. You tolerate tummy time quiet well and your neck is getting stronger and stronger. Hopefully by next month you will be able to push up.

On August 24th, you grabbed your links and latched on. There was no turning back. You now reach for them and your other toys while sitting in your bouncy seat or lying on your play mat. We even added a toy to your carseat to keep you entertained on the go; Jacques the Peacock to be exact.

Now on to sleep…

On August 27th, at 10 weeks, you slept from 7:30-5:30. When you started rustling at 5:30, I put your paci back in and you went back to sleep until 7:00! Then, on September 1st, you slept from 7:30-7:00, without a peep. We are so proud of you! You recently started breaking out of your swaddle, so we are going to try to transition you next month. We are also going to transition you to the crib at night, but Mommy isn't in too big of a hurry. I'm not sure my heart is ready!

We went to Nannie and Pop Pop's house again this month. Mommy drove all three of you (4 hours!) by myself and you did really well. I stopped to nurse you once, but you pretty much slept on and off the entire time. While at the lake, you gave me your first laugh! On September 3rd, while sitting on the porch talking to Mommy you gave me a giggle. Oh, the joy! Then, on September 9th, Mommy woke up to you laughing in your sleep! It must have been a really funny dream, buddy.

Some other random things to note:

You found your hands! You would rather suck on them than your paci. You aren't a huge fan of your paci. You typically fight it when we stick it in your mouth, then spit it out. You like to have it to fall asleep during naps and at night, but once it is out, you don't cry for it. Thank goodness for that!

You aren't a big eater. I'm not sure how much you eat when I nurse you, but when I give you a bottle it's usually around 4-5 ounces in the morning, 5-6 ounces at night. On September 3rd, you took a whopping 7 ounces at night, but that was a one-time-deal. It doesn't seem to affect your sleep at night, so I am not too worried about it.

Mommy started going back to the gym this month. On Mondays and Fridays you join me (sometimes daddy comes to help) and on Wednesdays I leave before you wake up. The first morning that Daddy had the honor of waking you up and feeding you, he said that you stared him down and gave him the lip and a cry when you realized it wasn't me! It was hard for me, too, Bambell!

Three months with you and life keeps getting better and better. We are so in love with you, Camp. Keep being the chill, sweet baby that God created you to be! Happy three months!
