tricks and treats.

This year, lots of tricks and lots of treats were had Halloween night. Ann Bennett woke up on the wrong side of the crib from her afternoon nap, so to rid her of the screams and tears we gave her Twizzlers. Lots of Twizzlers.

That trick was on us.

Our little candy-eating stinker drove around with Daddy in the Bad Boy Buggy, while Mommy and Brooks walked ran from house to house. My sweet, shiny red fire truck approached each doorstep making siren noises and was sure to tell every one who dropped candy into his basket, "thank you."

It was a drizzly evening, but that didn't slow us down one bit. We must have hit up 18 houses before the big down pour. When we got home, we ate supper on the front porch and handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters who were brave enough to withstand the rain. That may have been Brooks' favorite part of the night.

We ended up with lots of treats and sugar highs. There's nothing worse than a baby and a toddler jacked up on sugar. Actually, yes there is…a basket full of candy, staring at you, that you can't eat. Oh, the horror.

This time, the tricks on me.

Happy Halloween!

the eve of halloween.

On Halloween Eve, we had a group of friends and their kiddos over for some Witches Ride watching, chili eating, pumpkin carving fun.

We walked (and drove) the babies down to the end of the street to watch the Homewood Witches Ride, an annual event for women of Homewood to dress us and bike through the city, tossing candy to kids along the way. It was fun to see some of our friends riding and the boys got some treats.

John started a fire out back when we got home, we ate chili, and mingled while the kids played. We ended the night carving pumpkins and hiding the candy basket from the babies.

Time with friends is always good for my soul and the kids had an absolute blast. I'm hoping to make this a Halloween Eve tradition!

i say boo, you say zoo.

Last Friday evening, we took Brooks and Ann Bennett to Boo at the Zoo and had the best time. This year Brooks was old enough for the Ghost Rollers and the Spider Slide. John walked him to the top of the slide, and surprisingly, he clung on tight and rode down in the tube all by himself. Mommy was oh, so proud (and quite shocked). We also rode the Eerie Express, Scarousel, and went trick-or-treating. I think the highlight of both babes night was the popcorn. Sis made sure she had two handfuls at all times!

We all had so much fun and I was thankful we were able to get some use out of our costumes. Here's to hoping it doesn't rain on Saturday!

Baby Charlie was born on Monday, the 19th, and he is every bit of sweet. Brooks, Ann Bennett, and I went to the hospital on Tuesday to meet him and welcome him into our crazy world.

We love you so much, Charlie Ray Owens! You are a precious gift!
